Olive Subsidies and Organic Certification in Spain It is worthwhile obtaining an olive subsidy if you have around 50 olive trees or more on your finca. Your farm may have already been registered for the subsidy by the previous owner, in which case it is a simple process to transfer the paperwork into your name. If not, then a new file has to be opened for you and the correct procedure followed in order to obtain the assistance. We have the forms in the office, ask us for help. Organic certification at the moment is a daunting task as there is so much paperwork involved and so many documents to collect that even Spanish speakers find it difficult! However, an organic association has been set up in Orgiva to help people with access to the main organic certifying board, the CAAE, and to give support and advice to anyone wanting to set up as an organic farm in the Alpujarra. Don’t be harassed by it all, come and talk to us about it and we will help, filling out the right forms for you, making sure you have the correct documentation and then pointing you in the right direction. If anything is missing, we will be able to advise where to get it from or even go ourselves! Once you have the organic certificate, you might then need labels for your organic olive oil, almonds or honey. There is a certain procedure for this which must be respected, ask us what to do!
